City of KANDY
A living
heritage
Surrounded by
densely forested mountain’s natural water ways are common sight in
senkadagalapura or Kandy. Its desirability does not confine to its strategic
viability of natural barricades: mountains, forests and water (giri durga, wana
durga and jala durga) due to witch it was chosen as the capital of kandiyan
kingdom. Today it is a popular tourist destination that attracts both local and
foreign crowed to its history, culture, tradition, political atmosphere, people
and nature blessed by the presence of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Identifying the
“outstanding universality” of Kandy UNICEF declared it a world heritage in
1988. A world heritage undoubtedly claims for future signaling for the
necessary of preserving it by the present generations. On the other hand any
nook in the world cannot ignore or avoid change and transition of course the
city of kandy requires to be developed and to be on par with the other major
cities in the world energizing the tourist industry of the country but along
with its cultural and religious value preserved and protected. This may sound
challenging yet Sri Lanka is determined to take up the challenge.
If you are
visiting to Sri Lanka don’t forget to visit this living heritage city Kandy.
The railway
and the bus stand can be combined by building the bus stand upon the
underutilize railway system as it has easy access from Gopallawa and Peradeniya
roads. In these process air rights is used instead of land rights introducing a
new concept for Sri Lanka.
Along with
the railway station 1000 boutiques 150 channeling centers and the fair can be
established. All pavements will be cleared of shops and streets sellers they
will be given space in the area allocated for the boutiques. So people have all
service providers at one place.
