The seas off the coast of mirissa offers a once in a life
time opportunity for visitors as it is currently becoming a major hotspot for
spotting Whales and dolphins. The main port
of SriLanaka for watching whales
and dolphins is Dondra Point of down south because it is located closely to
their migration path. The season for sighting these mammals are during the
months of November to April, out of which December, January and April are the
peak months, during these months the probability of spotting Sperm whales and
blue whales are very high moreover the chances of spotting Spinner Dolphins off
Dondra point are also high. There are two vessels that make the four
excursions, these vessels travel up to 15 nautical miles to obtain a closer
view.
Mt.Laviniya
Twelve kilometers from Colombo,
on the road to galle, is the beach
resort of Mt.Lavinia. it lies alongside a wind-swept headland jutting in to the
waters of the Indian Ocean. With its white sand and calm
waves, Mt.Lavinia is a popular bathing spot. The Governors house built in 1805
by sir Thomas Maitland has now been converted in to the famous Mount Lavinia
Hotel.
Negambo
Negambo situated by the shore of a lagoon by the same name
once has been a trading port for portuges and dutch and is ideal place for
those who want quick access to and from the airport.
Negambo is a beautiful beach resort on the western coast of SriLanka,
just a short drive north of Colombo.
As it is also very close to the airport, Negambo is a convenient place to
either begin or end your trip to SriLanka. You can relax on beautiful beaches,
view incredible sunsets and enjoy western and SriLankan food. Sea food is very
popular and caught fresh daily by negambo fisherman. Visit a fishing village
and the bustling erly-morning fish auction as the catamarans come ashore with
their bounty of fresh seafood.
Take a boat ride into the Muthurajawela Marshes – rich in
bird life and amphibians. Negambo by night also has a comparatively lively
atmosphere with a scattering of independent bars and restaurants down the
